Exercise and a balanced diet are an important part of everyday life for a fit and healthy body. For a youthful looking face it is usually surgery, facial injections, countless creams and moisturisers or accepting our age and the related wrinkles that go with it. That is until now.
Danielle Collins is an experienced authority on yoga, pilates, wellbeing and nutrition. After one of the classes she was teaching, a client said to her ‘I wish you could do the same for my face’. She then spent many years putting together current research and traditional techniques on facial health and The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method was born.
Her method has been extensively featured in the media (Vogue, The Daily Telegraph, ITV1 and many more) and she is considered the world leading Face Yoga expert. She is also the ambassador for the Nintendo’s Face Training game for the Nintendo DSi. Jennifer Aniston and Victoria Beckham have reportedly used this method.
Face Yoga is a combination of yoga, which tones and strengthens the facial muscles, acupressure, which improves energy flow, and massage for relaxation. Just like we have muscles in our bodies that need exercising to keep them toned and firm the 57 muscles in the face are no different, apart from the fact that, because they are much smaller, they are easier to tone and the benefits can be seen much faster. These techniques boost collagen and elastin, both of which help to plump the skin and keep it supple.
Some of the reported effects are:
- Restores youthful glow
- Increases circulation
- Enhances and tones skin
- Reduces sagging
- Reduces eye puffiness
- Smoothes neck
- Good for tension headaches and eye strain
All you need is 10 minutes a day for 6 days. Try and stick to the same time and place each day if you can. Having a space in your home which you can call your ‘sanctuary’ will enhance any wellbeing exercises you do as the energy of health and wellbeing will grow the more you use that space. Drinking a glass of water after will help hydrate you and eliminate toxins.
In total there are 18 exercises for a complete facial workout and her new ‘10 Minute Natural Facelift’ DVD also includes gentle body yoga for anti-ageing, juices and smoothies for healthy skin and homemade natural skincare to help you look and feel naturally beautiful from the inside out.
Here are two exercises for you to try:
The V: Good for reducing crow’s feet; opening up your eyes.
Put both middle fingers together between your eyebrows and apply pressure to the outer corners of your eyes with your index finger. Look up and move the lower eyelids upwards in a strong squint. Relax and repeat six times. To finish, squeeze eyes shut for 10 seconds, then relax.
The smile smoother: Good for lifting and firming the cheeks and jaw; reducing lines around the mouth.
Hide your teeth with your lips and make an ‘O’ shape. Then smile as wide as you can keeping the teeth hidden. Repeat six times. Next hold the smile and place an index finger on your chin. Start to move your jaw up and down as you tilt your head back. Relax, then repeat twice more.
